Gaultheria procumbens (WINTERGREEN)

One of our favorite native groundcovers, wintergreen can be locally common in its favorite places—mesic woodlands, sandy flatwoods, forests, and even sandy prairies, provided there is adequate moisture. Tiny white flowers are followed by charming red berries that emerge in the fall and can last through to the following spring. Wintergreen’s most endearing quality is its lustrous, leathery foliage that forms evergreen mats under prime conditions. Oh, and the intoxicating aroma and taste!

We’re offering vigorous plants in 4″ pots and jumbo plants grown in 1gal containers. Over time, wintergreen will spread, politely, via underground runners. Plants are easily divided to redistribute or share with friends.
